A Russian writer. The author of the collection of stories "Vechera na khutore bliz Dikan'ki" ("Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka") (1831-1832), "Mirgorod" (1835), "Arabeski" (1835), the comedy "Revizor" ("The Government Inspector") (1836), the novel "M'ortvye dushi" ("Dead Souls") (1852) etc.
