A Russian writer. The author of the novels: Rudin (1856), "Dvor'anskoe gnezdo" ("Home of the Gentry") (1859), "Nakanune" ("On the Eve") (1860), "Otcy i deti" ("Fathers and Sons") (1862), "Dym" ("Smoke") (1867), "Nov'" ("Virgin Soil") (1877), the stories "Zapiski okhotnika" ("A Hunter's Sketches") (1847-1852), As'a (1858), "Veshnie vody" ("Torrents of Spring") (1872) etc.
